                             The kidneys are a pair of organs located in the back of the abdomen. They play a vital role in urinary system and it maintains homeostatic functions in our body. Kidneys regulate the electrolytes, maintenance of acid-base balance and regulation of blood pressure (i.e. salt –water balance). What is kidney stones:

          Kidney  filters  the waste from blood, they create urine. Accumulates the salt and other minerals of urine  to create  form small kidney stones. Kidney stones are hard crystalline , mineral material formed with in the kidney or urinary track. The stone usually causes little problem untill  it falls into the urethra, the tube that drains the kidney in to the bleeder, and cause an obstruction , preventing urine from draining out of the kidney and often causing severe pain. Kidney stones vary a small size . a stone small  it may pass on its own,  causing little or no pain. A large stone may get stuck along the urinary track and  block the flow of urine, cause the severe pain or bleeding. Kidney stones are one of most common disorder in urinary track.There are different terms for  kidney stones  depending upon where they located  within the urinary track.

               Urolith           :  a stone anywhere within the urinary track

               Nephrolith    :  a stone with in the kidney

               Ureterolith   :   a stone within the ureter

                Calculus       :   a stone within the body

  

    

Causes of kidney stones:

     The leading causes of kidney stones are lack of water. There is not enough water  to dilute the uric acid(component of urine) the acidic  environment  is excessive to the kidney to form stones. Thyroid and parathyroid  irregular function to poor absorption of calcium  in the body, the calcium settled down to the kidney to form  stones. Calcium oxalate is the most common type of kidney stone. Less frequently, uric acid can cause stones.  Xanthine, Struvite and other types of stones are rare. Some stones are combinations of these minerals and chemicals. Intake of high vitamin D also a factor to increase calcium stones in kidneys.   High Calcium through supplements (not for dietary) in diet may increase the number of stones formed.

Types of  kidney stones:

 calcium stones: 

        calcium stones are  most common type of kidney stones and form too much of calcium+ oxalate in urine.

  uric acid stones:

uric acid stones are can form  if there is a high amount of acid  in urine.

These stones caused by high protein diet include lots of meat,  people occur in gout problems.

Cystine stones:

 Cystine stones are rare , they can occur in both men and women  who have the genetic disorder of  cystinuria.  Cystine is acid naturally occur in body, leaks from the kidney into the urine.

Struvite stone:

In this type of stone  mostly present in  women with urinary track infection.  These stones are caused by kidney infections. Treating infection  can prevent the developing struvite stones.
